Determining the Need for Dentures

Posted .

Do you need false teeth? If you brush your teeth two times daily and floss at least once a day, the answer is likely no. If you’re older than 60 and have lost several pearly whites, the answer could be yes.

Identifying the need for dentures can be hard, but there are a few signs you can look for to indicate whether you may have a need for false teeth. First of all and most obviously, you may need false teeth if you are missing chompers. If the teeth you do have feel extra sensitive to heat, cold and other sensations, you may have grave tooth breakdown, necessitating partial or complete dentures.

If you do need false teeth, they’ll be developed to last for a long time. To make dentures, Dr. Theodore Gehrig begins by taking an impression of the patient’s mouth, through use of a mold or imaging. After Dr. Theodore Gehrig reviews the impression or image to ensure it is ready, we will send the impressions to an oral laboratory for processing. Technicians at the lab use high temperatures and advanced techniques to create strong, durable false teeth that will last for a very long time. In a second appointment, Dr. Theodore Gehrig will make alterations to the dentures to ensure that they sit well in the patient’s oral cavity.
